Pathwaves is a platform for supporting & developing female & gender minority engineers and producers

SKILL: We start by supporting the development of the skill necessary to become a professional engineer and producer, by bringing together up and coming engineers, producers, and artists who will be mentored by proven industry experts in a studio environment creating commercially viable music

NETWORK: Then we create a networking opportunity by bringing to the studio members of the industry that are vital connections for engineers and producers wanting to work commercially - management, a&r, labels and publishing are all represented and will offer insights into what we need to do to be considered for jobs and offered opportunity for collaborations.

VISIBILITY: Finally we will document the experience as well as create bespoke content that we will upload to our instagram and importantly our youtube channel. This will include tech tips, mentor interviews - with the goal to start to equal the balance of online music tech content which is overwhelmingly male.

DAILY THEME

RECORDING & CAPTURING IDEAS

DAY 1: Recording

The focus is on recording first up.

Whether you are in the large studio the small production room or upstairs with the synths, the focus is on refining your ideas, and then capturing them

DAY 2: Production

After recording the ideas, day 2 is an opportunity to further refine what we have captured.

It might include overdubs, or edits.

There might be significant sound design

There also could be heavy vocal production processes.

Whatever you are interested in and the song needs the mentors will guide you through this.

DAY 3: Mixing & Finalising

The song production is complete so now lets make it sparkle!

Mixing is the finishing touches and the detailed attention to how the sounds interact together to ensure you are bringing out the most in the song and that it is capturing the listener in the way you want.

Closing: Industry & Networking

On the final day we finish early to meet key industry players. We have the opportunity to ask them questions about how to develop and who to reach out to when we are ready to make the next step in our careers.

After that we open up the studio for a little party/ networking event where you can relax and reflect on the whirlwind day and meet many of the other amazing engineers, producers, songwriters, performers that call Berlin home.

In any given collection society around the world, the number of female songwriters sits at around approx. 20% of the total membership. When looking at female producers, this number is dramatically less and feel their needs to be a greater focus on supporting programs like Pathwaves.
— Adam Townsend, APRA AMCOS Europe

to be one of the sponsors of the Pathwaves project as it aims to educate female music makers and raise their
competency levels in music production and engineering.
— Katarina Becic, ABLETON
We appreciate an event like this which is focussed towards those further along in their career not just starting out. We acknowledge that multifaceted support and infrastructure is needed to facilitate true change to the landscape of technicians working in our industry. At ADAM we are focussed on gender equality in the music industry and are proud to be a sponsor of this event
— Malte Grubbner, ADAM AUDIO
